5 Research Questions

Background

Cervical cancer remains a leading cause of cancer-related morbidity and mortality among women in Nigeria despite being largely preventable through screening and early detection. Screening methods such as Pap smears and HPV testing can significantly reduce disease burden, yet utilization remains low in many communities. Factors such as limited awareness, cultural beliefs, financial barriers, poor access to services, and fear of diagnosis may contribute to low uptake. Understanding factors influencing screening utilization is essential for improving preventive healthcare interventions and reducing cervical cancer incidence. This study seeks to investigate cervical cancer screening utilization and its determinants among women of reproductive age in South-East Nigeria.

Research Objectives

  • Determine the prevalence of cervical cancer screening utilization.
  • Assess knowledge of cervical cancer and screening services.
  • Examine factors associated with screening uptake.
  • Evaluate barriers to cervical cancer screening utilization.
  • Identify predictors of screening participation.

Research Questions

  • What proportion of women have undergone cervical cancer screening?
  • What is the level of knowledge regarding cervical cancer prevention?
  • Which factors influence screening utilization?
  • What barriers hinder participation in screening programs?
  • Which factors predict screening uptake?

Suggested Methodology

A community-based cross-sectional study will be conducted among women aged 21–49 years. Participants will be selected through multistage sampling. Data will be collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics and logistic regression models.

Suggested Sample

400 women of reproductive age
