Background

Enterococcus species are important opportunistic pathogens increasingly associated with healthcare-associated infections. The emergence of multidrug-resistant and vancomycin-resistant strains poses significant challenges to patient management and infection control. Surveillance of resistance patterns is essential for guiding antimicrobial stewardship programs and informing treatment decisions. Despite growing concerns about resistant Enterococcus species, epidemiological data remain limited in many Nigerian healthcare settings. This study seeks to investigate the prevalence and resistance characteristics of Enterococcus species isolated from clinical specimens.

Suggested Methodology

A laboratory-based cross-sectional study will be conducted using clinical specimens submitted to microbiology laboratories. Identification will be performed using standard bacteriological methods, while susceptibility testing will follow CLSI guidelines. Statistical analyses will evaluate prevalence and resistance determinants.
