Background

The use of antibiotics in poultry production has contributed to the emergence of antimicrobial-resistant bacteria with potential implications for human health. Extended-spectrum beta-lactamase-producing Enterobacteriaceae are of particular concern because of their resistance to commonly used antibiotics and ability to spread resistance genes across bacterial populations. Poultry farms may serve as reservoirs of resistant organisms that can be transmitted through food, the environment, or direct contact. This study seeks to investigate the occurrence and resistance characteristics of ESBL-producing Enterobacteriaceae in poultry production systems.

Suggested Methodology

A cross-sectional microbiological study will be conducted using poultry fecal and environmental samples collected from commercial farms. Standard culture techniques, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, and PCR-based gene detection will be performed. Statistical analyses will evaluate associations between farm practices and resistance patterns.
