Background

Acinetobacter baumannii has emerged as a significant healthcare-associated pathogen due to its ability to survive in hospital environments and develop resistance to multiple antimicrobial agents. Carbapenem-resistant strains represent a major clinical challenge because treatment options are often limited. Intensive care units are particularly vulnerable to outbreaks caused by resistant Acinetobacter species. Molecular surveillance of carbapenemase-producing isolates is critical for infection control and antimicrobial stewardship programs. This study seeks to investigate the prevalence and molecular characteristics of carbapenemase-producing Acinetobacter baumannii in intensive care units.
