Frequently touched public surfaces can serve as reservoirs for microbial contamination and facilitate transmission of potentially pathogenic organisms. Automated teller machine keypads are used daily by large numbers of individuals and may accumulate bacteria from diverse sources. The presence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria on these surfaces could contribute to community transmission of resistant pathogens. Understanding contamination patterns on public-use devices can inform hygiene awareness campaigns and public health interventions. This study seeks to evaluate bacterial contamination and resistance profiles associated with automated teller machine keypads.
