Knowledge and Attitudes Toward Antimicrobial Stewardship Among Nurses in Public Teaching Hospitals in Nigeria

Background

Antimicrobial resistance is a growing global health threat that undermines the effectiveness of treatment for infectious diseases. Nurses are increasingly recognized as key contributors to antimicrobial stewardship programs through patient education, medication monitoring, and infection prevention activities. However, successful implementation of stewardship initiatives depends on adequate knowledge and positive attitudes among healthcare professionals. Limited evidence exists regarding nurses' understanding of antimicrobial stewardship in Nigeria. This study aims to evaluate nurses' knowledge and attitudes toward antimicrobial stewardship and identify opportunities for strengthening nursing involvement in resistance prevention efforts.
