Assessment of Household Food Insecurity and Nutritional Status Among Under-Five Children in Internally Displaced Persons Camps in Northern Nigeria

Background

Food insecurity remains a major public health challenge among internally displaced populations in Nigeria, particularly in regions affected by conflict and insecurity. Children under five years are especially vulnerable to the consequences of inadequate nutrition, including stunting, wasting, micronutrient deficiencies, and increased susceptibility to infectious diseases. Despite humanitarian interventions, concerns persist regarding food availability, dietary diversity, and child nutritional outcomes within displaced communities. Understanding the relationship between household food insecurity and child nutritional status is essential for strengthening nutrition programs and improving health outcomes among vulnerable populations. This study seeks to assess food insecurity and nutritional status among under-five children residing in internally displaced persons camps in Northern Nigeria.
