Background

Climate change has intensified the frequency and severity of heat-related events globally, with significant implications for occupational health. In Nigeria, outdoor workers such as construction laborers, traffic officers, street vendors, and agricultural workers are increasingly exposed to prolonged periods of extreme heat. Heat exposure can contribute to dehydration, heat stress, reduced productivity, cardiovascular strain, and other adverse health outcomes. Despite growing concerns about climate-related health risks, limited empirical evidence exists regarding occupational heat exposure among vulnerable worker populations in Nigeria. Understanding the magnitude of heat-related health challenges and associated risk factors is essential for developing workplace adaptation strategies and public health policies. This study seeks to assess the impact of climate change-related heat exposure on occupational health among outdoor workers in Lagos State.

Suggested Methodology

A cross-sectional analytical study will be conducted among outdoor workers selected through multistage sampling. Data will be collected using structured questionnaires, workplace observations, and heat exposure assessments. Descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, and logistic regression analyses will be employed to identify predictors of adverse health outcomes. Statistical significance will be set at p < 0.05.
